Project Overview

Dallas's only car-free social ride — 20 miles through the city, open to everyone.

Dallas is a driving city by design. Its streets are built for cars, and its geography reflects that. That's part of what makes the Dallas Bike Ride a genuinely different kind of event — for one Saturday each May, a 20-mile loop through downtown and surrounding neighborhoods is closed to traffic and opened to cyclists. The event is non-competitive by intention. No race clock, no results. Just riders of all ages and abilities moving through a city that looks and feels different than it usually does. ESW handles full event operations, which means we're responsible for everything from course setup and street coordination to the start line, rest stops, and the post-ride celebration.

The Dallas Bike Ride is produced by American Bike Ride, the organization behind the DC Bike Ride and Philly Bike Ride. The format is the same across all three cities: a non-competitive, car-free social ride through city streets, designed for participants of every age and ability level. In Dallas, that means a 20-mile route through downtown, with street closures coordinated across the city. ESW operates the event end-to-end — course setup, vendor management, start and finish lines, rest and refuel stops, and the post-ride celebration. Proceeds support local cycling nonprofits including the Dallas Bicycle Coalition, Bike DFW, and Bike Friendly South Dallas.

The Dallas Bike Ride is part of the American Bike Ride series, which also operates the DC Bike Ride (celebrating its 10th year in 2026) and the Philly Bike Ride (5th year in 2026). Dallas is the most recent addition to the series. The event follows a model that has worked well in both Washington and Philadelphia: close city streets, remove the competitive element, and build an experience that's more community gathering than athletic event. Dallas has a growing cycling community supported by organizations like the Dallas Bicycle Coalition and Bike DFW, and the annual ride has become a consistent anchor event in the city's cycling calendar.

How We Made It Happen

Full operations across a 20-mile car-free route through downtown Dallas.

The Dallas Bike Ride requires coordinating street closures across a significant stretch of downtown Dallas, then managing a 20-mile course with rest stops, a start area, a finish area, and a post-ride celebration — all on the same day. ESW handles all of it. Because the event is non-competitive, the focus shifts from timing logistics to participant experience: making sure the route is clear, well-marked, and enjoyable from the first mile to the last.

Course Setup & TeardownFull setup and breakdown of the 20-mile course including signage, barriers, and course markings.
Street Closure CoordinationWorking with city departments and traffic management to close and restore streets across the route.
Start & Finish Line OperationsStaging, participant flow management, and volunteer coordination at both the start and finish areas.

Vendor & Activation ManagementCoordinating sponsor activations, vendor placements, and post-ride celebration logistics.
The Result

The Dallas Bike Ride is the only car-free road event in Dallas, open to cyclists of every ability level. ESW handles full operations across the 20-mile course — course setup, street coordination, rest stops, start and finish areas, and the post-ride celebration. Our job is to keep the route clean and well-staffed from start to finish.
